Daydream Energy Pty Ltd (ACN 700 900 483), an early-stage company in Melbourne. We build software that lets households and businesses get paid for flexibility they already have. Typically this is through retailer programs, or Demand Response. This trial is small on purpose: it is how we find out whether the idea holds up outside a spreadsheet.

A geographically targetted paid trial to connect with battery storage systems and ask them to reduce the household power consuption during gird times of need. We use a small amount of the energy stored in your home battery on a handful of hot afternoons over summer, and we pay you for it.

No. This is the main thing that makes this pilot different. Every large VPP in Australia requires you to be their retail customer. We don't touch your plan, we are not trying to upsell you or switch plans, and you can keep the tariff and feed-in rate you have today.

Yes, if your household is selected to participate in the Sundown pilot we will request from you your National Metering Identifier (NMI), and authorise Daydream to request interval meter data from your retailer to read and analyse your energy usage during the pilot.

Up to $200 per household for the season. It is a cap, not a flat fee. The amount depends on if you sign up, connect to our automation system or respond to events via email or SMS, how many events you take part in, and ultimately how much energy you save relative to your home baseline during called event periods.

We pay you directly. It is not a bill credit and it does not change your feed-in tariff. Payments may have tax implications, so seek your own advice.

We expect around 6 events across the summer, usually late afternoon. You get at least 1 hour's notice each time.

You set a reserve level and we never go below it. You tell us in the survey how much you're comfortable sharing.

If your household is selected to participate in the Sundown pilot, we will ask you to connect and authorise the Daydream platform with your battery vendors app or cloud. From there we will be able to send your battery one time event schedules, and monitor your battery state of charge doesn't go below your preferred safe level.

Six events at roughly 5–10 kWh each is somewhere around 30–60 kWh across the whole summer. A typical home battery is warranted for a few thousand kWh a year, so this is on the order of 1–2% of your warranted throughput for the season. Check your own warranty — some manufacturers have specific terms about third-party control, and if yours does, tell us and we'll work around it.

It may, which is why we ask. If your battery is already enrolled in a VPP or orchestration program, or was installed under a Solar Victoria rebate or interest-free loan with conditions attached, or your electricity contract restricts third-party control, check those terms before registering. We ask about all of it in the survey and we'll go through it with you before offering you a place — none of it rules you out automatically.

Tell us in the survey. If your retailer or another provider already has the right to control your battery, we can't safely add a second controller — but we still want to know you exist.

Sundown is run by Daydream Energy Pty Ltd (ACN 700 900 483). We are not an electricity retailer and not an energy market participant — we do not sell you power, and your retail contract is untouched.

The answers you give in the survey, plus your IP address, browser details and the code on the flyer you scanned. We use it to work out eligibility, choose the 30 households, and decide which battery and inverter systems to support first. It is stored by Amazon Web Services. If you are selected and separately agree at that point, we may share your connection details with your electricity distributor so the trial can be measured. That disclosure applies only to selected participants who opt in, and to nobody else. We do not sell your information. You can ask us to show, correct or delete it at any time by emailing hello@daydream.energy.

We're building toward programs that pay households properly for network services. This trial is how we prove it works. If it does, participants get first offer on what comes next. No obligation either way.
