Data Access and Control Authority
Version 2026-08-31.2 · effective 31 August 2026
This is the plain-English version of what you're authorising when you join Sundown Home. It's deliberately specific, because "connect your battery" is doing a lot of work as a phrase.
Three separate authorisations. You grant them separately and you can withdraw any of them separately.
1. Your electricity account and meter data
What you're authorising: Daydream Energy Pty Ltd to act as your agent to request and receive, from your electricity retailer and your distributor, the data relating to your electricity account at the property.
What that covers: your NMI and meter configuration, your tariff and plan details, your billing history, and your interval consumption and export data — how much your home used and exported, in 30-minute intervals, for the past 24 months and going forward while you're enrolled.
Why we need it, specifically: your payments are settled against a baseline built from your own recent interval data — what your home would have used had we not dispatched. That baseline needs 20 days of clean data before your first paid dispatch. Without meter data there is no baseline, and without a baseline there's no way to measure or pay you for what you delivered.
How we get it: either by sending your signed authority to your retailer or distributor, or through the Consumer Data Right, the federal open-data scheme for energy. If we use the Consumer Data Right, you'll go through a separate consent flow with its own dashboard, expiry and deletion controls, and that consent governs that data.
What it does not cover: we can't change your plan, switch your retailer, open or close an account, or agree to anything on your behalf. Read-only.
How long: while you're enrolled, or 12 months, whichever is shorter, then we ask you to renew.
2. Your battery data
What you're authorising: Daydream to read data from your battery and inverter through your manufacturer's cloud platform.
What that covers: state of charge, charge and discharge power, solar generation, household consumption, battery temperature and health, fault codes, and your current settings and schedules. We read this every few minutes while you're enrolled, and around a dispatch we record your state of charge at each interval so we can show you exactly what your battery did.
How you grant it: in your manufacturer's own app or portal, by approving Daydream as an authorised application. You're approving it there, not here, which means you can revoke it there too.
3. Control of your battery
What you're authorising: Daydream to send charge, discharge and schedule instructions to your battery.
Within these limits, set out in full in the Program Terms:
- never below your Reserve SOC, 20% by default, which you can raise but not lower;
- only within 16:00–21:00 AEDT, during the season from 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027;
- no more than 10 dispatches across the season, no more than 3 in a month, no more than 1 in any 7 days, and never less than 48 hours apart;
- usually 3 hours long, never more than 4;
- always with notice — provisional the day before at 14:00, confirmed at noon on the day, and no less than 2 hours in the rare case the network instructs us at short notice;
- never overriding backup or islanding, and never changing your backup settings, and
- one 30-minute commissioning test shortly after you connect, so we can confirm the whole path works. We'll tell you when.
What we log, for every dispatch: the instruction we sent and when, when your system acknowledged it, when it actually changed state, your state of charge at each interval, your metered energy, the baseline we calculated, and your resulting payment. You can see all of it. So can we, and if you ever think we did something we shouldn't have, that log is how we settle it.
Your opt-out. You can decline any dispatch from the app at any time, including once the event has started; stopping one part-way returns your battery to its normal schedule. You can also pause or leave altogether at any time — that's separate from opting out of a single dispatch, and it stops everything.
What we don't do with it
We don't sell your data. We don't use your interval data to work out anything about your household beyond running the program and showing you your own results. Where we analyse across participants to improve our forecasting, we use de-identified or aggregated data.
One specific commitment: if you tell us there's life support equipment at the premises, we record only that a declaration was made, the date, and how it reached us. We don't record what the equipment is or who it's for, and we don't ask.
How to withdraw
Any authorisation: in the app under Settings → Connections, or email hello@daydream.energy.
Battery access and control, at the source: revoke Daydream's authorisation in your manufacturer's app. That cuts us off immediately regardless of anything on our side, which is the point of doing it that way.
Consumer Data Right consents: through the consent dashboard, where you can also elect to have data deleted rather than de-identified.
Control stops immediately on withdrawal. Access tokens are deleted within 5 business days.
